The lawyer of the late Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny has been arrested. He was detained yesterday in Moscow, several Russian media outlets reported. Last week, lawyer Vasily Dubkov accompanied mother Ludmilla Navalnaya to the “Polar Wolf” prison camp where Navalny died. Navalny died unexpectedly ten days ago. He was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison.

According to his team, the organization of a funeral ceremony for Navalny is being hampered by the Russian authorities. “After a day of searching, we still haven’t found a mourning room,” Navalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysch, wrote on X (Twitter). Some funeral homes said they were full, others refused as soon as Navalny's name was mentioned.
“At one point, we were told that funeral homes had been banned from working with us.” According to authorities, Navalny died on February 16 in a prison camp in the Siberian Arctic region of Yamal. The circumstances of his death are unclear. The politician, weakened by the 2020 poison attack and repeated solitary confinement in the camp, reportedly collapsed during a visit to the prison's freezing courtyard and died despite attempts to resuscitate him.
