Football games on Paramount Plus

After the minor storm on DAZN, changes to season tickets, a less-than-linear agreement with SKY, and disruptions and problems with streaming earlier in the season, many football fans have taken steps to seek alternative solutions. Apparently one has been found, that is the possibility of watching Series A on Paramount + and in this post we will tell you about it.

For those unfamiliar, Paramount + is Paramount Global’s (a brand formed from the merger of Viacom and CBS) streaming service that offers various types of content, including movie premieres, TV series, original productions and programs related to channels such as Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central.

It debuted in Italy on September 15. Here we have written about how to activate Paramount on Sky and Paramount+ Free Trial.

Paramont+ and Series A

But if Paramount+ is a streaming platform purely geared towards non-sports entertainment, say much closer to Netflix than DAZN, then how is it possible to access Series A games, especially when DAZN has the exclusive rights ? Let’s try to explain it in a simple way.

Thanks to the renewed partnership between Paramount Global and UEFA (valid from the 2024/2025 season to the 2029/2030 season) on Paramount + it will be possible to see the matches of the Champions League and also Serie A, but beware this only applies to the US market (precisely because Paramount Global does not own these broadcasting rights in Italy). How can you watch these games when you are in Italy? Someone found the way, namely by using a VPN.

For the less geeks, a VPN (Virtual Private Network acronym) is nothing more than a virtual private network to surf anonymously over a reserved communication channel created over the public network. In short, you can surf by disguising your IP address, thus hiding your identity and location.

There are several services that offer this type of connection, including the most famous NordVPN and ExpressVPN (usually they require a fairly cheap monthly subscription) and after launching the VPN service and choosing a server in the United States to connect to If you have an active Paramount+ subscription, you can access the US catalog, which therefore contains Champions League and Serie A matches.

Obviously we are talking about a somewhat borderline solution and in fact its operation is not 100% guaranteed, but in theory it should work.

As for Serie A, in Italy you can watch on DAZN or SKY (not all games with the latter), while the champions will be broadcast on Sky, Infinity + and Amazon Prime (as well as free-to-air on Mediaset ) thanks to other agreements, while it for a user in the United States it is enough to have a single subscription to access all the games on Paramount + and with the VPN method you could theoretically do the same in Italy.

Speaking of costs, the Paramount+ subscription costs €7.99 per month in Italy (you save a little with the annual subscription or €79.99 per year). If you compare it to other Italian streaming services, Paramount+ is definitely in line with the other platforms (Paramount owns the free Pluto TV platform).

If the VPN system actually has positive feedback in terms of operation, all Champions and Serie A games can be accessed at a very low monthly cost compared to current DAZN prices.

As soon as Paramount + officially arrives in Italy, surely someone will implement this system and we will have some testimonies about its more or less correct functioning.
