SEOUL, May 14 (Yonhap) – South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin has called on Central and South American countries to support his country’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in the city southeast of Busan on the sidelines of a multinational meeting in Guatemala, his reported office on Saturday.

Park met with 12 senior officials from 11 countries, including Guatemalan President Alejandro Eduardo Giammattei Falla, Belizean Prime Minister Juan Antonio Briceño and Honduran Vice President Doris Alejandrina Gutiérrez of Antigua Guatemala, in the city to attend the 28th session of the council Minister of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

The minister stressed that the Busan World Expo will provide crucial opportunities to enhance practical cooperation with Central and South American countries on climate change, maritime and other fields, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also said these nations are important cooperation partners for South Korea as the Yoon Suk Yeol government pursues the role of a “global core state” to fulfill its international responsibilities, according to the ministry.

He also called for the cooperation of these countries in South Korea’s efforts to join the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for the 2024-25 term.
